Heading Home hosted a tour of the Westside Emergency Housing Center on Friday, September 27 for those interested in learning how we work to make experiences of homelessness rare, short-lived and nonrecurring. We enjoyed facilitating this opportunity for donors to witness the impact of their support and showing community members the effectiveness of our programs. Friends joined us from United Way of Central New Mexico, Presbyterian Healthcare Services, Western Sky Community Care and more!

The tour was led by Program Director Robert LaCour who educated guests about how the Westside Emergency Housing Center (WEHC) shelters and supports individuals, families and kids who have no place else to go. Robert spent time showing us inside the different dormitories, the new healthcare clinic, and we even got a sneak peak at the new dorm they’re renovating! We also got to take a look inside the new computer lab which will open soon.

There has been great interest in seeing both the AOC Campus and the Westside Emergency Housing Center and we know folks want to learn more about these vital community resources. We’re excited to announce that Heading Home will begin hosting tours on the Final Friday of each month! Look out for more information on our website, social media and in future newsletters about how to register for the next AOC tour on 10/25 and the next WEHC tour on 11/22 (rather than November’s official Final Friday, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday).
