SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery (SOAR)

Heading Home operates an SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery (SOAR) program, assisting our eligible agency clients in navigating the difficult process of getting approved for disability income benefits, leading to stable income and housing.

SOAR promotes recovery and wellness through increased accessibility to Social Security disability benefits for individuals who are at risk of or are currently experiencing homelessness, have a serious mental illness, medical impairment, and/or a co-occurring substance abuse disorder.

The circumstances faced by our homeless community members make it difficult for them to access these benefits on their own. Barriers include lack of a permanent address, lack of medical records due to inconsistent medical treatment, and symptoms that interfere with cognitive function and make the process even more challenging. SOAR works to overcome these barriers.
