On Saturday, August 18, Heading Home welcomed a new round of volunteers to our Home Team program. Home Team volunteers engage with our newly-housed clients with the sole purpose of socializing and helping with the transition from the streets into a new living environment. Oftentimes, people who have experienced homelessness for an extended amount of time find it difficult to adapt to housing and make meaningful connections to the larger community. Home Team members meet clients for coffee, to see a movie, attend an art class or simply just to talk.
New Home Team members received training on the causes of homelessness, Harm Reduction, Housing First and maintaining appropriate boundaries within their relationships with clients.
These new volunteers will make a positive and lasting impact on our clients. For information on volunteering for Heading Home’s Home Team program, please contact Kristy Anderson.
